Driving Economic Growth: Extension of Tax Incentives in Mexico Through 2025

On December 24, 2024, the Federal Government of Mexico published a decree in the Official Gazette of the Federation extending the validity of various tax incentives until December 31, 2025. This measure aims to foster investment, enhance business productivity, encourage nearshoring, and strengthen the economy in the country’s border regions.

The decrees whose validity has been extended include:

  1. Decree granting tax incentives to key export sectors, allowing the immediate deduction of investments in new fixed assets and an additional deduction for training expenses.
  2. Decree for tax incentives in the northern border region, offering income tax (ISR) and value-added tax (VAT) benefits to promote competitiveness in this area.
  3. Decree for tax incentives in the southern border region, with similar incentives aimed at boosting economic development in this region.
  4. Decree establishing tax incentives for the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) applicable to certain fuels, designed to stabilize prices and support consumers.
  5. Decree establishing complementary tax incentives for automotive fuels, aimed at maintaining fuel price stability.
  6. Decree establishing tax incentives for the sale of fuels in Mexico’s southern border region, designed to balance fuel prices in this area.

Various business chambers and confederations in Mexico have recognized this action as a significant support for economic competitiveness and the well-being of border regions and key sectors, highlighting President Claudia Sheinbaum’s commitment and sensitivity toward family businesses and the community economy.

This extension of tax incentives reflects the Federal Government’s intent to continue supporting businesses and communities in strategic areas, promoting economic and social development in Mexico.
